Back in the early 80s when I was living in New York, I went to the clubs every once in a while. I wasn’t always lucky getting in. I never made it inside Studio 54. There was this long line outside, you would have to stand there for a while and hope that one of the bouncers at the door would let you in. I heard even Andy Warhol was never sure if he would get through. I haven’t forgotten the experience, being turned away, denied access to what was probably at the time the wildest and who knows what else place in town.

Reflecting now on the idea of urban platforms, and their counterparts in the current virtual world, I think a lot about access. Like who gets access, who is not getting access, what does it mean to be denied access, or inversely, can access to a platform be detrimental or dangerous? Some graphic thoughts on this to come.
